Are traditional party favors a waste of money?
Planning a party is one thing, but picking the right favors? That’s a whole adventure! I recently had a hilarious and somewhat stressful adventure helping my best friend choose party favors for her daughter's 4th birthday bash. We set out on a mission to find the perfect party favors, and little did we know that we were about to embark on an epic journey filled with laughter, confusion, and a few unexpected twists.
Our first stop was Party City, conveniently located right next to Target. As soon as we walked in, my friend delved into a detailed list of requirements and specifications for the party favors. We were on the lookout for favors for not just one, but two separate parties, each with its own unique set of standards. The pressure was on!
For the first party, which was a daycare celebration, we had strict instructions to avoid candy due to allergies and the risk of kids bouncing off the walls. We sifted through the aisles, scrutinizing every potential goodie bag item. We weren’t impressed with the typical plastic toys and trinkets available and wanted something more substantial. Purchasing something that would simply be thrown away didn't sit well with us.
I had a brilliant idea – coloring books! Not just any coloring books, but regular-sized ones that would appeal to both kids and their parents. I thought it was pure genius, but my friend felt it was a bit over the top. I mean, who wouldn't want a coloring book that even adults could enjoy? Alas, after a debate about the price and the need for identical party favors for all 22 kids, we had to shelf the coloring book idea.
Coloring Book Ideas:
We briefly ventured into the world of canvas painting and were quickly brought out. There was an understanding that each child needed to receive the same gift.
Canvas Painting Kits:
Undeterred, we moved on to the next party scenario, a themed extravaganza at the Little Gym. We needed gender-neutral favors that would align with the gymnastics theme. After some contemplation, my friend remembered passing by hula hoops earlier, and a light bulb went off in her head. Could hula hoops be the ultimate party favor?
Hula Hoop Idea:
We rushed back to the hula hoops but hit a snag when we realized that the cost would exceed the traditional party favor budget. Despite the coolness and versatility of the hula hoops, we had to face the fact that they were a tad too pricey. We hit a roadblock, and my friend was about to throw in the towel.
But wait, the adventure wasn't over yet! We decided to try our luck at Target, hoping to find a better deal. Sadly, we struck out and ended up right back at Party City, where we started. After a rollercoaster of emotions and pricing comparisons, my friend finally threw in the towel, calling it quits for the day.
Then, out of the blue, she texted me about getting those hula hoops, and I was hyped!
She splurged on the Party City hoops and boy, did it pay off. At the party, the kids went nuts for the hula hoops and turned the place into a hoop clinic. The parents were thrilled too, and we were just as excited.
Little did we know that our seemingly mundane pursuit of the perfect party favors would morph into a side-splitting and enthralling escapade that would lead to the creation of Favor and Kind. Where we're on a mission to help others break free from the same old party favors, by being kind to your time, kind to your wallet and providing thoughtful and multi-use options that your party goers will want to keep.
